Step forward Nigerian politicians and collect your crowns in the field of evil acts. Some if not all of them are bereft of souls. Only this past week, the Federal Government of Nigeria received $52.88 million from the United States of America in recovered assets linked to a former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke. This woman stole so much she didn’t know what to do with her loot but lay it on ludicrous acquisitions. Who knows how many Nigerian lives were lost to Diezani’s evil undertakings.
Truth be told Diezani only borrowed a leaf from the playbook of the evil men and women who bestride Nigeria’s politics. Since the the advent of the nation’s fourth republic in 1999, the habit of looting state coffers by political actors has become an endemic culture. Nearly all the past governors have been indicted for cleaning out monies meant for providing healthcare, education, infrastructure for their people. Yet nothing has moved to deter Nigerian politicians from stealing and pauperizing the people and sending many to their early graves.
What happened to the Sule Lamidos, Murtala Nyako and sons, the Orji Uzor Kalus, the Peter Odilis, the Ayodele Fayoses, the Dimeji Bankoles? It is over two decades since the erstwhile chair of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu announced to the world the apprehension at one Nigeria airport of a certain Patience Jonathan, wife of the then governor of Bayelsa State, Goodluck Jonathan, with the sum of $13million in cash – what became of that case?
Go back in time to 1990 when Nigeria had that oil windfall from the Gulf War. A whooping $12billion that would have changed the narrative of the nation for good, suddenly grew wings and flew out of the national treasury. The evil General himself, who presided over the looting of this mind boggling sum put on a show for Nigerians. He instituted a panel of enquiry into the missing fund and what became known as the Okigbo Report indicted the General and his illegal regime.
Today, that General is breathing hale and hearty in Minna, having deplored his loot among frontmen and women, spanning the Nigeria media, telecommunications, oil and gas etc. And like the devil who crave the blood of his anointed, has continued through his fronts to suck the blood of Nigerians.
