The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Aprilia in the province of Latina, Italy has held a workshop/training for preschool and primary school teachers in the community.

The project tagged, “Scuole Sicure” which took place at the newly opened La Maisonette Primary School, Aprilia, is one of its kind in Italy and is aimed at training teachers in First Aid to give the children in their care.

The ICRC Aprilia in collaboration with school proprietors and school heads brought teachers together and explained the basic steps to take in an emergency. They treated topics like hypothermia, syncope, wounds, head trauma, convulsion/ epilepsy, etc.

The mayor of Aprilia, Mr. Lanfranco Principi and some of his councillors visited the workshop to boost the morale of participants. He expressed delight that the local government was beneficiary of this great initiative and how privileged the pupils were to have their teachers trained.

The participants were later divided into groups to have hands-on practical training. The teachers were glad to be part of the initiative as they armed themselves with knowledge of how to care for the children during emergency. The training was managed by the ICRC Aprilia Coordinator of life saving manoeuvres for paediatric age,Antonello Ciorciaro and his team.
