Parents and guardians besieged the school moments after the attack
The Governor of Nigeria’s Northwest state of Katsina, Mr Aminu Masari has confirmed that some 333 students are missing following Saturday’s attack on the all-boys Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina State by bandits who have terrorised the state for years.

The school with a huge population of 800 students, was thrown into chaos when the bandits struck. The few policemen on guard put up resistance, allowing some of the students to flee. Parents and guardians besieged the school to look for their wards as news spread that half the school population had been kidnapped by the bandits.

Only last month the Boko Haram terrorist group killed nearly 50 rice farmers in the Northeast state of Borno, causing an outrage in the country. In addition to the terrorists’ attacks in Northern Nigeria, the South too is plagued by recurring incidents of kidnappings, robberies and killings, creating a sense of insecurity throughout the country.
