Megan described in an emotional laden voice how she struggled to understand discussions and conversations about how dark the colour of the skin of her unborn child could be. She said processing these racial talks in those heydays of her pregnancy were “very hard.” According to her, she was most troubled over Archie’s safety and protection in view of those conversations and discussions on race in the royal household.
The heat was so much that Meghan at a point experienced suicidal thoughts. When she turned to Buckingham Palace for help she was let down as the palace’s Human Resources Department told her there was nothing they could do.
“I Was really ashamed to say it at the time and a shame to have to admit it to Harry, especially because I know how much loss he suffered, but I knew that if I didn’t say it that I would do it. And I just didn’t, I just didn’t want to be alive anymore,” Meghan asserted.
Prince Harry on his part lamented on the impact of Meghan’s treatment in the royal family, drawing a parallel to the treatment her late mother also received. In all of this, Harry said he was particularly disappointed by the role played by his father the Prince of Wales. “I feel really let down, he’s been through something similar. He knows what pain feels like, and Archie is his grandson. I’ll always love him, but there is a lot of hurt that has happened.”
The Prince disclosed that the royal family cut off finances to him after he made his intentions known in 2020 that he would step back from his royal duties. He credited his wife with opening his eyes to see the strictures of royal life, adding that were it not for their relationship he would not have been able to part ways with the royal family. “I wouldn’t have been able to, because I myself was trapped. I didn’t see a way out…but I didn’t know I was trapped.” Prince Harry declared further that, “my father and my brother (Prince William), they are trapped.”
The only positive moment in the interview was when the couple revealed that they are expecting a second child – a girl, this summer.
