The EndSARS protests which have spread across Nigeria with support also from across the globe today reached Rome via the Embassy of Nigeria in the Eternal City. On a blustery Autumn day in Rome the protesters in their hundreds converge on Via Orazio, the seat of the Embassy chanting solidarity songs.

At the Embassy’s gate the chants of “ole…ole…ole,” from the protesters resonated through Via Orazio and environs. The peaceful protesters aligned their demands with those of their compatriots back home.

Namely, they demanded institutional and security reforms, cut in the cost of governance, reform of the of the educational and Health sectors. The protesters also called for the overhaul of public service and youth development.

The Italian police were on hand to provide security through the duration of the protest. The Charge d’ Affaire at the Mission Mr Franklin Ogunyemi, who has been recalled by the Foreign Affairs Ministry back to Abuja but still cooling his heels at the Mission, promised the protesters that their grievances would be channeled to the government.

Protests have also taken place at the Embassies of Nigeria in the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Germany among others.
