At the Embassy’s gate the chants of “ole…ole…ole,” from the protesters resonated through Via Orazio and environs. The peaceful protesters aligned their demands with those of their compatriots back home.
The Italian police were on hand to provide security through the duration of the protest. The Charge d’ Affaire at the Mission Mr Franklin Ogunyemi, who has been recalled by the Foreign Affairs Ministry back to Abuja but still cooling his heels at the Mission, promised the protesters that their grievances would be channeled to the government.
Protests have also taken place at the Embassies of Nigeria in the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Germany among others.
