Burna Boy (L) and Wizkid have become music global icons with their Afrobeat hip-hop
Nigerian duo of Burna Boy and Wizkid have won wards at this year’s Grammy held last night in Los Angeles in the United States of America. Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category while Wizkid won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy; Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King: The Gift album.

Burna Boy narrowly lost the award last year to eventual winner Angelique Kidjo. This year he won with his Twice As Tall album described by the Grammys as “a masterclass in the vibe and hustle that have made Burna Boy an international musical force.”

The album features a wide range of international artists such as Stormzy, Youssou Ndour, Naughty By Nature, and Chris Martin of Coldplay, and had Sean Combs as executive producer.

The video which earned Wizkid his win was described as “a feast for the fashion-forward and a celebration of Black and brown female beauty everywhere.”

Nigeria’s Afro hip-hop has become thriving industry that continues to make in-road on a global scale.
