According to Udeozo, the reintroduction of the charges would enable the Embassy “deliver effective and efficient services” to Nigerian citizens and the Italian public. Under the new fee regime, applicants applying for passports in addition to the mandatory online payment would have to pay an additional €30 service charge.
To obtain a Certificate of Nationality from the Mission an applicant is now required to pay the sum of €80 while application for Emergency Travelling Certificate attracts the sum of a €100. To obtain a letter from the Mission for dual citizenship, an applicant is now required to pay €80 for the document.
Another interesting area of the new price regime is Nulla Osta for marriage, each of the couple would have to pay €130 to obtain the document. The Nulla Osta for a death person is still free. See details of the new prices below.
AfroLife findings indicate that the Mission is being besieged daily by Nigerians from across Italy for various services. The situation is so alarming that the whole stretch of Via Orazio (the street the Embassy is located) is usually taken over by Nigerians on daily basis to the consternation of road users and the neighbourhood. There have also been complaints by the Nigerian Community about service delivery and the role of touts in working with insiders at the Embassy to rip-off Nigerians.
Udeozo has vowed that changes being introduced under her watch would change these narratives. In a chat with AfroLife, she assured Nigerians that the crowd seen daily in and around the Embassy would become a thing of the past.
To this end, the Embassy has put structures in place to clear backlog of passport applications which piled up from the COVID 19 lockdowns in Italy. While assuring her compatriots across the country of quality services from the Mission, Udeozo appealed for cooperation from the public in order for the new changes to be effective.
