Within one month early this year the company awarded a contract to the tune of 40 billion Naira
The corruption ravaging the Niger Delta Development Company, NDDC, has exploded into the public domain. As the Corona Virus pandemic was making inroad into Nigeria, the henchmen and women at the NDDC were busying themselves at siphoning the resources of the nation. Within one month early this year the company awarded a contract to the tune of 40 billion Naira.

Funny enough, such contract with huge sum did not follow laid down rules before it was awarded and paid for in full. The stench in the NDDC got to the President of Nigeria at his base in Aso Rock, Abuja, so much that he couldn’t stand it but called for a forensic audit of the company. That call by the president has now opened a can of worms on the NDDC. The sickening manner the funds of the company have been looted is beyond words.

The National Assembly has also weighed into the whole corruption saga of the NDDC, conducting an investigation of it own. Many players, including the Minister Godswill Akpabio have appeared before the law makers, but one person that has blown open the sleaze in the NDDC is Mrs Joy Nunieh, the immediate Acting Managing Director of the company who was late to the meeting of the law makers but chose instead to address the press about the culture of corruption in the company.

In the clip that has now gone viral on the social media, the former MD points the accusing finger in the direction of Mr Akpabio. Joy Nunieh accused Godswill Akpabio who is the Minister of the Niger Delta of bombing a Nigerian oil pipeline to cover up his corrupt acts. She also accused Akpabio of forcing her to take an oath of secrecy, to award emergency contracts. “He told me to take an oath. Though he denied that, he told me three times. We had a reconciliation at the Villa in the office of Sarki Abba, the SA (Special Assistant) to the President on Domestics.”

“For instance, he told me to raise a memo to fraudulently award emergency contracts for flood victims in the Niger Delta,” she explained.

Akpabio while responding to Nunieh allegations in a separate interview said the former NDDC MD has temper problems which can be confirmed by her four former husbands.
