The comments which had garnered more virility are the ones which dared to say that Kyari had been flown out with the presidential jet to Cuba for treatment
Since he went public to announce he has tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) the chief of staff to Nigeria’s President Mohammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari has continued to be disparaged on the social media. Many unprintable things have been written about him. For the many Kyari is the new face of the virus in Africa’s populous nation. Of every 10 comments you are hardly to see one wishing the President’s aide speed recovery. It’s been wishes of doom and a reminder that the elite, which Kyari reflected, is the reason Nigeria hospitals are not functioning or grounded as the case may be. They taunts the President’s aide that the health care system which himself and his ilk neglected is what they are now looking to for cure since chance of seeking their medical solutions abroad was now near impossible.
The comments which had garnered more virility are the ones which dared to say that Kyari had been flown out with the presidential jet to Cuba for treatment. No matter how the Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire tried to debunk this notion that no official of government was receiving medical treatment abroad over the COVID-19, the rumour just refused to go away. Kyari himself has released a statement just before he landed in Lagos to begin treatment.
Kyari the statement said, “I am writing to let you know that on medical advice I will transfer to Lagos later today (Sunday 29) for additional tests and observation. This is a precautionary measure: I feel well, but last week I tested positive for Coronavirus, the pandemic that is sweeping the world. I have followed all protocols government has announced to self-isolate and quarantine.”
Trust social media warriors, they have interpreted the statement to mean that Lagos was the smokescreen of the administration or metaphor (departure hall) to hatch the Cuba plan. One of the commenter who posted a comment to AfroLife via whatsapp vowed the President’s aide was already in Cuba and wish him to remain there. He signed the message off with: “viva Abba Kyari of Cuba!”
